IEEE kicks off smart grid effort in June - 08 May 2009

Intel hosts meeting of power, computer, comms EEs.

In the desire to define standards for a smart electric grid, the IEEE will host a meeting of computer, communications and power engineers in California in mid 2009. The popularity of the meeting has far exceeded its 150-person limit and the IEEE is planning a Webcast for those who are unable to attend.

The meeting will follow the National Institute of Standards and Technology's (NIST) major summit on smart grids, which will be the first step in drafting standards for smart grids. NIST received US$10 million under President Obama's stimulus package and has been directed by the US Government to initiate plans for smart grid standards.
